Actor Matthew Perry, a producer, and comedian Matthew Langford Perry was born in America on August 19, 1969, and his mother Suzanne Marie Morrison was a journalist who served as a press secretary for the Canadian Prime Minister.

His parents got divorced before his first birthday and his mother married a Canadian-born broadcast journalist, Keith Morrison. He was raised by his mother in Ottawa, Ontario, but he also lived in Toronto and Montreal.

Matthew was educated at both the Rockcliffe Park Public School, alongside future Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and at Ashbury College. While growing up, he got interested in Tennis and became a top-ranked junior player.

After he realized that he would never be the next Jimmy Connors, the young man abandoned tennis and refocused his ambitions on his father’s line of work. 

After he completed his high school, Matthew Perry was set on becoming an actor, but he guaranteed his father that he would attend his college if he was still unemployed in a year. But Chandler Bing had a lucky break and started landing roles in many sitcoms. Matthew Perry got his first acting break at the age of 18 when he was cast in A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon opposite River Phoenix. That role opened doors for other guest-starring roles of popular shows for him like Silver Spoons, Growing Pains and Empty Nest. 

Surprisingly, when his show “FRIENDS” premiered in 1994, Perry was probably the most well-known among the whole cast that would become the most famous friends in TV history. None were household names at the time.

Matthew Perry’s death was officially reported on October 28, 2023. He was found dead at a Los Angeles-area home. According to reports, he was found in a jacuzzi at his home, and no drugs were found at the scene. Law enforcement sources stated that there was no foul play involved in the incident, and first-responders were called to the residence for cardiac arrest. However, the specific cause of his death may not be immediately available, pending further investigation or an official statement from authorities.

For the first season of the show, he earned $22,500 per episode, just like the rest of the lead cast, then in the 2nd season, the amount was increased to $40,000 per episode. The increment went on with each season of Friends, and he earned $75,000 per episode in season III, later on, he started receiving $85,000 per episode for season 4, then he used to get $100,000 per episode in season 5, and $125,000 per episode in season 6 which was really huge then.

Then in season 7, after negotiation with the producers, he started earning $750,000 per episode of the show and for the 7th and 8th seasons, which amounts to $18 million per season. For the last two seasons of the show, he got $1 million per episode, making $24 million from season 9 and $18 million from season 10. For the complete 10 seasons of Friends, Matthew Perry made $90 million in base salary.
